CREATIVE ASSISTANT Chihiro Kawasaki DRAMATURG Lou Cope
The English National Ballet Studios hosted a seven-day research and development session, supported by sponsors, involving six experienced artists and a dramaturg.
The project, led by Stina Quagebeur, facilitated intensive creative exploration and the development of new choreographic work without the pressures of tight deadlines. The artists focused on two new concepts destined for American productions, including themes like the Opioid Epidemic for the Joffrey Ballet and the Rashomon effect for Ballet X in Philadelphia. The process was notably dynamic, incorporating innovative uses of text and the Jacques Lecoq acting method to enhance choreographic expression. The project culminated in substantial creative contributions from all participants, setting the stage for future developments in Quagebeur’s choreography.
